Shalini Ajith Kumar or Shalini Babu (born on 20^th November 1979) is simply known as Shalini. She is a former Indian actress who primarily worked in Malayalam and Tamil films. She made her debut into the industry at the age of three as a child artist in the Malayalam film Ente Mamattikkuttiyammakku. She was credited as Baby Shalini initially. She appeared in her first lead role in Aniyathi Pravu in 1997.

Early life and background

Shalini was born to parents Babu and Alice. Her mother is from Thiruvalla city and father is from Kollam. She attended Fatima Mat Hr Sec School, Adarsh Vidyalaya, Chennai and Church Park Convent in Chennai.  She has a younger sister Shamili and elder brother Richard. Both her siblings are actors. Shalini Ajith enjoys badminton and has played in several tournaments in her childhood. Her father moved to Madras in order to become an actor and his wish was fulfilled through his kids who became actors.

Personal life 

During the shoot of Amarkalam, Shalini started dating her co-star Ajith Kumar. Ajith proposed to Shalini in June the same year. After consulting with her family and friends Shalini agreed to the proposal.  After their marriage, Shalini quit the industry after her completion of two incomplete projects. The couple has two children together. Shalini always says that she is very close to her friends and some of them are Shanthi, Hema and Visalakshi.

Career

Shalini debuted at the age of three as a child artist in Malayalam film Ente Mamattikkuttiyammakku,  produced by Navodaya Studio. She has taken part in Kannada film with legendary actor Dr Vishnuvardhan in the film Ee Jeeva Ninagagi released in 1986. She and her sister Shamili acted together in the Telegu film Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari in 1990.

The actor continued to appear in many films as a child actor before taking a long break. After a long break, she made a comeback with her first lead role  Aniyathi Pravu(1997), the film became a blockbuster. 

She has appeared in highly successful films in Malayalam and Tamil such as Kaliyoonjal(1997), Kadhalukku Mariyadhi (1997), Amarkalam (1999), Niram (1999), Kannukkul Nilavu (2000), Alaipayuthey (2000) and Piriyadha Varam Vendum (2001).

The actor won the Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award for Best Actress for the film Alaipayuthey.

Her last film was Piriyadha Varam Vendum in 2001.
